THE RESTAURANT EXPERIENCE

At Upstart Food Brands, we love the experience of a great restaurant. A significant portion of our enjoyment is derived from the culture, vibe, and service; otherwise, what’s the point of going out? Because these intangibles weigh so heavily into the decision on where to dine, the quality of a website can very much be the tipping point in favor of one eatery or another. A good website not only gives you the basic details – where it’s located, what they serve, whether you can make reservations, etc. – it lures you in with story, imagery, and a sense of adventure.

Anthonino’s Taverna, a Greek/Italian restaurant on the Hill in St. Louis, has been very successful since it opened back in 2003. They win local and national awards, are known for the best toasted raviolis in St. Louis (the home of the t-rav), and have been featured on national food shows like Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. But like so many restaurants, their web presence did not reflect how truly great the place had become.

The disconnect can often be explained in simple terms: Money. Websites are expensive to produce. When business is good, it can be hard to justify the cost. But with a more digitally savvy base of customers, and new competition emerging at every corner, a bad website will catch up to a complacent proprietor, and even the best, most reputable restaurants will inevitably feel the effects.

Plus, restaurant owners typically own restaurants because that’s what they’re good at. Developing brands and creating content for websites is often unfamiliar territory. A lot of web companies know this, and exploit it.

A GREAT RESTAURANT WEBSITE IS WITHIN REACH

Such was the case with Anthonino’s Taverna. Fortunately, they found Upstart Food Brands. In addition to being able to develop a completely new website on an easy-to-maintain platform, with all the functionality they needed, we provided professional, custom photos of the food, atmosphere, and people that make their restaurant a special place. We also developed their story, organizing and writing all of the content for the site, and adding depth to an experience that was only apparent from a seat in their establishment. And the best part? We were able to do all of that for a very modest cost, even splitting the total into a manageable payment schedule that spanned several months, which allowed for a more digestible hit to cash flow.
